Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County is holding its annual Autumn Culinairefood, wine and beer tasting event October 15, 6:00-9:30pm, at the Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville. Over twenty of the area’s finest restaurants will be on hand to serve up tempting samplings from their menus and an eclectic collection of over 150 fine wine and international beers will be offered for tasting by Glendale Liquors. A Silent Auction and music by the Meg Hanson Band round out this special evening. All proceeds support the youth mentoring programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County.
Those are just the bare facts, but more noteworthy than this being one of the premier events of the local fall season, is the compelling work of Big Brothers Big Sisters in mentoring youth. We all know how important it can be to have a career mentor, but the need for durable role models, for a relationship with a caring adult, starts in childhood. Not all households offer that, and it can be hard for single parents to cover all the bases. Big Brothers Big Sisters was started in response to the growing number of children coming into the court system in the early 1900s. Something had to be done to help stabilize and nurture such children. Helping kids to grow up into productive adulthood benefits all of society, so be part of the solution by supporting BBBS in whatever way you can.
