How strange to see smoked sardines from Thailand emblazoned with the words Barnegat Bay? Hey, that’s our bay, and our lighthouse! And as far as I know, we don’t even have sardines in the bay (at least not to speak of), and easily found another blogger, Jack Krupansky, who agrees with me.
My nephew Patrick sent me the photo after coming across these at a grocery store (likely in NYC where he lives). Apparently this is a brand of a Dutch company, Zwanenberg, which also operates in Ohio. Sadly, the last sardine cannery in the US closed just last year, so we won’t be seeing anything like this being locally produced anytime soon I suspect.
