If you’re headed for Rome (or just dreaming like me), here’s a smartphone app you won’t want to miss.
Katie Parla, a Rome-based food historian, journalist, and blogger with roots in Central New Jersey, launched her first Rome for Foodies app earlier this year, and it’s just the thing to help you find the best of food and drink in the Eternal City.
Now she’s launched an expanded and greatly enhanced version for iPhones and iPads, Katie Parla’s Rome for Foodies. (Droid users like me can still use the original version, “Rome for Foodies,” and it does get updates.)
The new version is available for download from the iTunes App Store for $3.99. It focuses on small businesses, food artisans, wine bars, and natural gelato producers. The 150 listings have been personally vetted by Ms. Parla. The iTunes version includes features like fully searchable listings, filtering by category, distance from user, and budget range, plus a “Katie’s Pick’s” category singles out the best of the best and a “My Rome” category lets users save their own favorites.
What’s more, once you download either version it works offline (including zoomable maps), so you don’t have to be concerned about exhorbitant roaming charges! Ciao baby!
