Slow Summer? Not so much.

Jersey PeachesHere’s a roundup of some of the many, many, food events going on right now, or coming up soon.  Who said summer was slow?  The only slow in my summer is the enjoyment of Slow Food

First of all, there’s still time to enjoy a 3-course prix fixe dinner at the venerable Lahiere’s for a mere $32. Can you believe it?  This offer is good Mon-Sat., until the end of August.  And, oh, there’s a $25 a bottle wine list to go with it.  Wow.

Restaurant One53’s Jersey Harvest menu continues through August, and into September; it’s full of Garden State bounty, but what’s catching my eye is the dessert of grilled peaches with Salted Caramel ice cream.  Be still my heart! 

A second Sustenance Events farm dinner takes place on August 23. This one is in northern NJ, at Starbrite Farm in Andover.  Chef is Andrea Carbine of the highly-regarded A Toute Heure, and dessert is prepared by the talented Diane Pinder of Donna Toscana Chocolate Lounge.  Information and tickets at

Rather go south? Check out the SJ Hot Chefs site for a series of Feast in the Fields dinners coming up.  This enterprising group of chefs from south Jersey runs all sorts of great promotions, and their website is a hotbed of culinary activity.

Tuesday, September 1, 3:00pm – Al fresco excellence alert!  Outstanding in the Field dinner at Cherry Grove Farm, with elements chef Scott Anderson.  See my write-up in Friday’s Packet  (and earlier blog post).  This should be an amazing evening, and ticket sales are strong, so don’t wait too long.

Author Discussion and Signing with Giuliano Hazan, The Thirty Minute Pasta Cookbook 100 Quick and Easy Recipes: Giuliano Hazan.  Hazan is the son of renowned chef Marcella Hazan and runs a cooking school in Italy.  Seating is limited and begins at 6:00pm on a first-come, first-seated basis.
