Holidays are creeping up on us with their tiny cat feet, so here are some of the goings on that have arrived in my Inbox lately:
I only wish I could celebrate my birthday (39 again!) at the American Museium of Natural History’s Wild Mushroom Harvest: Foraging Local Woods and Markets event on Tuesday (11/9), 6:30pm. It’s part of their Global Kitchen series, and tickets to something like this (plus dinner in the city of course!) would make an excellent gift for a foodie. Attendees at this event will learn about tasty mushrooms found locally by foragers, and also cover some of the newer cultivated varieties now appearing in markets. Gary Lincoff, author of The Complete Mushroom Hunter, and food writer and blogger Eugenia Bone, author of Well-Preserved, will share a few tips on mushroom preparation and serving. Tasting included. The next event in this series is on December 7, The Lure of Chocolate.
The Rocky Hill Inn is celebrating their second anniversary this month with several specials and events. Congratulations to Chef Proprietor Evan Blomgren and his family! They are closing for a long Thanksgiving weekend, but you can enjoy a traditional southern-influenced Thanksgiving dinner there on Sunday November 14. It’s a bargain at $35 (less for kids) and sounds yummy! Call 609-683-8930 or visit the website.
Brother’s Moon in Hopewell is offering Thanksgiving To Go. You roast the turkey, but order all the fixings, sides and desserts (pies from scratch), from the restaurant by November 19. Let Chef Will make your holiday dinner extra delicious and less stressful! (Okay, maybe he can’t do anything about that family member that drives you nuts, though.)
See’s Candy returns to our area from November 11 through December 26, opening seasonal stores in two locations: Marketfair, 3535 US Highway 1, Princeton, NJ 08540 and Bridgewater Commons, 400 Commons Way, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
This is a big deal, because it used to be you had to mail order See’s, or visit a store out west, or prevail upon a friend traveling to the left coast to bring you back See’s chocolates. I was so surprised to come across their “pop-up” store in Marketfair last year, and this year, my father is already telling me what he wants from them.
Such a Deal! Here’s a nice idea for holiday gift certificates from the Terra Momo Restaurant Group: Purchase a $100 gift card online through November 30, and they will add $20 as their way of saying thank you. You can use this at Eno Terra, Mediterra, Teresa Caffe or Witherspoon Bread. You can even buy it for yourself, then take out your friends during the year. What’s not to like?!
